Welcome to Barstow, California.
Barstow is a city located in San Bernardino County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 21,119. It is named after railroad magnate William Barstow Strong.
Route 66 runs through Barstow and the town's name is mentioned in the lyrics to the song, "Route 66". The city is a major regional transportation center. Several highways, including Interstate 15 and Interstate 40, converge on the city, and it is the site of two large rail classification yards, belonging to the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads.
Railroad shops and the Goldstone space tracking station are major employers. Several U.S. military facilities are nearby. Barstow is an outfitting point for expeditions into Death Valley.

The immediate Barstow area offers a wide range of recreational activities for its residents and visitors alike, including organized youth and adult sports/activities through the Barstow Park & Recreation District and other organizations, as well as camping, hunting, off-roading, desert exploring, including viewing of seasonal wild flowers, geological points of interest and petroglyphs.
Stoddard Valley Off-Highway Vehicle Area: Located about 7 miles south of Barstow off Interstate 15, Stoddard Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV), the area contains a variety of landscapes for off-highway vehicles. Competitive OHV events are often held within this area.
Barstow is a healthy, vibrant city that promotes a true spirit of community throughout the year. Annual community events which provide residents of all ages with a variety of entertainment, some of which include:
Calico Ghost Town Civil War reenactments (February), Earth Day and Garden Party (April), March of Dimes WalkAmerica (April), Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Barstow College (May), Calico Ghost Town Spring Festival and Chili Cook-off (May), American Cancer Society's Relay for Life at the Sportspark (June), Fourth of July celebration at the Sportspark, Kids Care Fair (August), PRCA Rodeo in Yermo (September), Calico Days (October), Calico Ghost Town Ghost Haunt (October), Mardi Gras Parade on Main Street (Halloween), Calico Ghost Town Heritage Fest (December), Christmas on Main Street, Annual classic car show on historic Route 66 (September)
The city boasts seven ballparks, 12 play areas, an outdoor pool, bowling alley, two golf courses, and tennis courts. The community center offers a gym, weight room, arts and craft facilities, handball and racquetball courts, aerobics and sauna rooms. The Robert A Sessions Sportspark includes six ball fields (all with electronic scoreboards), two soccer fields, volleyball courts, batting cages, a covered in-line roller hockey arena and two concession areas.
